The scale of new Royal Adelaide Hospital cannot be under-emphasized: the largest hospital ever undertaken in Australia, and the single largest infrastructure project undertaken in South Australia’s history costing more than $2.4 Billion, making it one of the most expensive buildings ever built.

Features include an emergency department capable of treating an extra 24,000 patients each year, 800 beds, 40 operating theaters, intelligent IT systems and a fleet of automatically guided vehicles.

The entire building is the size of two football fields (10 hectares). It is 11 storeys high with 2,300 car parks.

Scope of Work

The fire services scope of work includes the design, supply, installation, testing, commissioning and defects liability maintenance of the following systems:

  • Automatic fire detection system including smoke and heat detectors
  • Duplicated Fire Control Rooms featuring touch screen graphics control of the EWIS and Fire Fans
  • Multi-point Aspirating Smoke Detection Systems (MASDS)
  • IG-55 Gas suppression Systems
  • Installation of Dry Fire components of the Helipad DIFFS
  • Emergency Warning and Intercommunication System
  • Portable fire extinguishers and fire blankets
